    Scope and content

Item consists of a scrapbook of the Girl Guides in Coniston, Ontario. The scrapbook contains a handwritten, five page essay on the life of Lord Robert Baden-Powell and his involvement with Boy Scouts and Girl Guides. Also included are cut-outs of paper representations of badges which could be earned by a Brownie or Girl Guide, paper cut-outs of twenty-four of the world's flags, a fabric 'Boy Scouts' badge, a fabric "St. Joseph's College' badge, a fabric British flag taped to the inside cover, and newspaper clippings from the Sudbury Star and the Inco Triangle of Girl Guides in the Sudbury and District area. The clippings discuss the Girl Guides Association of Ontario campaign to raise $150 000 to expand and support instruction within the Girl Guides, the commencement of the first Sea Rangers group in Sucbury, the participation of Girl Guides from all over Northern Ontario in Guide Camp at Hazelmere on MacFarlane Lake, St. Patrick's Day tea held by the Coniston Catholic Women's League, training sessions for older girls in charge of Guide troops and holiday parties. There are also three newspaper clippings regarding the friendship scroll sent to all Canadian Girl Guides by Princess Margaret on behalf of the English Girl Guides. The scroll made it's way across Canada so the Girl Guides would all have a chance to examine it and see the message which was sent to them. Patricia Forestell has been identified with a written annotation in two newspaper clipping images and one photograph, and her name has been underlined in two articles along with her mother's, Mrs. D. Forestell, in one article. Others also identified with written annoations within the scrapbook are: Diane Duncan, 11, of 1st Coniston Company; Kathleen McKerral, 17, 1st Coniston Company leader, and Sheila Conlon.
