Administrative history

Georgian Bay Mnidoo Gamii Biosphere, commonly referred to as Georgian Bay Biosphere (GBB), is an organization working to protect and enhance the resources of eastern Georgian Bay through environmental stewardship, community education and sustainable development. Established in 1998 as the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve Inc., the GBB is a non-profit registered Canadian charity governed by a Board of Directors with an administrative office located in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada. In 2004, GBB became Canada's thirteenth UNESCO world Biosphere Reserve, covering 347,000 hectares of shoreline, stretching from the Severn River to the French River. In recognition of Anishinaabek territory, the name was changed in 2020 to Georgian Bay Mnidoo Gamii Biosphere.
