    Administrative history

The impetus for the creation of a French Conference within the PAOC appears as early as 1945 when requests were made for greater representation from Quebec on the Eastern Ontario and Quebec District Executive. As a result, a committee was created for the administration of Quebec matters that would work in cooperation with the District Executive. The French Conference of the PAOC was officially created in 1949. Although this new conference had their own constitution and by-laws, officers and Bible school, it fell under the supervision of the Foreign Missionary Department of the PAOC. Over the years, issues concerning the establishment and oversight of French-speaking churches were handled by both the French Conference and the Eastern Ontario and Quebec District Conferences. This situation led to much discussion and debate centered on the establishment of a separate district in Quebec. In 1995 the French Conference and the Eastern Ontario and Quebec District agreed to consolidate into one entity known as the Eastern Ontario and Quebec District. This consolidation was made possible by the assurance that it would eventually lead to the creation of a new district in Quebec. The new Quebec District came into existence on January 1, 2000. It incorporates all PAOC churches in the Province of Quebec both French and English.

    Scope and content

The fonds consists of records which reflect the activities of the French Conference. They also document the discussion and debate of the issue of amalgamation with other groups involved in work in French speaking Canada. The records contain information about various churches within the District, the Institut Biblique Beree (Berea Bible Institute), and the persecution of Pentecostals in Quebec. The records consist of the minutes of the first French Committee, minutes of the French Conference Executive, Conference minutes and reports, constitutions and by-laws, financial records, correspondence, newsletters and publications, clippings, pamphlets, historical writings, and anniversary booklets.
