The framed collar was donated to Heritage York for display at Lambton House by Joy Cohnstaedt ca. 2016. Joy acquired the item while volunteering for the Textile Museum of Canada.

Scope and content

The item is a handmade fine lace collar that features a Maltese cross pattern. It is laid flat in a gold gilt frame. A handwritten note attached to the back of the frame identifies it as being produced in Nottingham England, and brought to Canada sometime in 1915.

      Handwritten note on back of frame reads: Handmade ecru lace collar (incorporating Maltese Cross Pattern) made in 1912 or 1913 by young blind woman, in Nottingham, England with whom Etta (Henrietta) Parkers lived and worked for as a nurse/companion.
