Administrative history

In 2008, the Chaire de recherche en histoire du développement de la Grande Zone argileuse formed a partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 173 to collect testimonies of veterans living in the Hearst area. Nine veterans took part in the project.

Except for Margaret M. Brunelle who was a member of the Women's Land Army of Britain, all the veterans interviewed were members of the Canadian Army during the Second World War.

The fonds also contains information relating to Jack Bouthillier. This young soldier, a Jogues native, was killed in Afghanistan on March 20, 2009.

Custodial history

Scope and content

The fonds contains interviews and other documents relating to the personal experiences of the veterans during WWII. In accordance with each of the veteran's preferences, the employees of the Research Chair recorded the interviews in audio or audiovisual format. Photographs or textual records preserved by the veterans or their families are sometimes added to the interviews.

The fonds is composed of nine series:

Joseph Bégin;
Marcel Boucher;
Margaret M. (Peggy) Brunelle;
Roland J. A. Brunelle;
Jacques Côté;
Einon Hillman;
J. Léopold (Paul) Lavoie;
William M. Sachowsky;
Clifford E. (Ted) Wilson.
