Biographical history
Born in 1904, Napoléon Gagnon arrived in Mattice in 1928, where he established, soon afterwards, the Napoléon Gagnon Company, a small lumber company that became Mattice Lumber. Its lumber site was located north of Mattice, on the western and then on the eastern side of the Missinaïbi River. In 1969, the company was sold to Lévesque Lumber of Hearst.
The donor, Maurice Gagnon, Napoléon Gagnon’s son, occupied a variety of positions within his father’s company for many years. He was a trucker, organizer of the lumber camps, office clerk and administrator.

The fonds consists of textual and photographic records related to the donor's family and the activities of the Mattice Lumber Company Limited created by Napoléon Gagnon.

Immediate source of acquisition
The Centre d'archives de la Grande Zone argileuse acquired the fonds from Maurice Gagnon in 2008.
Arrangement
The records were organized by the archivist once acquired. The original photographs were returned to the donor.
