Biographical history
Professor of literature and grammar at l’Université de Hearst, Jacques Poirier is particularly interested in Franco-Ontarian literature and poetry. Born on August 11, 1959, in Kapuskasing, he completed two Bachelor of Arts degrees at l’Université de Hearst, one in sociology and another one in literature before obtaining a Master's degree from the University of Ottawa. Between 1989 and 2004, he worked as co-director of Les Éditions du Nordir, a Franco-Ontarian publishing house, founded at l’Université de Hearst. Among Jacques Poirier publications are the following poetry collections: Que personne ne bouge! (1988), Nous ne connaissons la mort que de nom (1990), Histoire du déluge et de l'amour ordinaire (1992) and Parfois, en certains jours de lumière parfaite (2006).

Scope and content
The fonds contains textual and photographic information about Jacques Poirier. Among the documents are unpublished poems and manuscripts associated with the four poetry publications of the donor. Documents related to Les Éditions du Nordir, unpublished poems written by Robert Yergeau and two plays written by Pierre Albert are also included.
