Biographical history

Also known as “le poète de Coppell’’, Guy Lizotte, was born on February 12, 1953. He often identified himself as the little guy from St Pie X, the community where he was raised and which is now a part of the town of Hearst. Guy Lizotte’s love of nature can be felt in many of his poems. His first book, Cicatrice, was published in 1977, and his second, La Dame Blanche, in 1981. He was a dynamic contributor to the cultural effervescence that characterized Northern Ontario’s French-speaking community in the 1970’s and was cherished by the Franco-Ontarian artistic community. Guy Lizotte was also a founding member and the first director of CINN, la Radio de l’Épinette noire. When CINN was inaugurated, in December 1988, one of Lizotte’s dream became reality. As a volunteer, he had worked for many years at the foundation of this community radio.

In the 1990s, he worked as a social worker while studying in the field. Laurentian University awarded him a bachelor's degree in social work, a few weeks after his death, in 2001. Reprises, poésie, a collection of poems found in Lizotte’s two books, was published in 2002.
