    Biographical history

    Elsie C.S. Buchanan was born in Hamilton on October 3, 1885 and died in her twenty-third year on April 3, 1908. She was the eldest daughter of Samuel and Ellen Buchanan. At the time of her death, the family lived at 298 Emerald Street North. Elsie was to be married a few months before she died, but on account of poor health the wedding was postponed. She was buried in the gown she made for her wedding. She rests in Hamilton Cemetery alongside her mother and father.

    Scope and content

    The fond consists of a personal diary which dates from 1902 to 1905, just a few years before Elsie C.S. Buchanan died. It includes descriptions of her day to day activities and social engagements with her many friends. The funeral card is dedicated in her memory and includes a poem that reflects the heartache felt by her family.
