The Education Committee was created in September 1934 by the Board of Trustees of the museum, and given authority over all educational activities in the Museum. The committee first met in October 1934, and was composed entirely of Trustees. In November 1935, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees suggested that by way of recognition, Ruth Home be added to the Education Committee when discussion concerned her work. A year later, the Chairman of the Committee of Directors was asked to be an ex-officio member; in addition, two other Directors were to be appointed annually.
In March 1941, these three members and Ruth Home were named a standing sub- committee of the Education Committee, having power to carry out programme details agreed upon by that Committee. In 1946, it was decided to establish the Division of Extension, headed by a Chief of Museum Extension who would report on his work directly to the Committee of Directors. As a result, the Education Committee was deemed to be no longer necessary. The Committee met for the last time in January 1946.
