Administrative history
Dunwich United Church, located at 179 Nancy Street in Dutton, was established on Oct. 2, 2011 with the amalgamation of Chalmers United Church in Cowal, St. John's United Church in Dutton, and Wallacetown United Church. It is still an active congregation of the United Church of Canada.
Chalmers United Church in Cowal was established in 1925, formerly Presbyterian. A Presbyterian Church in Cowal was first built in 1856. The charge disbanded ca. 1962 when Lawrence Station joined Southwold Pastoral Charge and Cowal formed a two-point charge with McBride's. In 1965, it became part of Dunwich Pastoral Charge with Chalmers Church in Cowal and Wallacetown. It closed in 2011.
