The Director General Public Affairs (DGPA) is accountable to the Deputy Minister and Chief of Defence Staff for leading and directing the development and implementation of National Dept. of National Defence (DND) and Canadian Forces (CF) Public Affairs (PA) programs designed to inform Canadians of DND and CF policies, programs, services, operations, issues and initiatives. DGPA also provides PA guidance to all CF members and DND employees, encouraging a modern, progressive and professional approach to PA across all levels of the CF and DND.

Fonds consists of six files containing documents released to the media by the Director General Public Affairs on 17 January 1997 regarding the investigations into misconduct and poor performance by members of the unit of CANBAT 2 at Bakovici Hospital in Bosnia and Hercegovina and the mistreatment of Capt. Sandra Perron, Canada's first female infantry officer. Fonds also contains news clippings from Canadian, American and French newspapers describing the opening of the Juno Beach Centre in Normany, France; the burial service for the remains of three unknown Canadian soldiers found near the Passchendarle New British Cemetery in Belgium; and the ceremonies held to mark the 60th Anniversary of Dieppe. There is also a nine minute video cassette titled, "On Patrol for Canada - The Halifax Class Frigates" which introduces the Halifax Class of the Canadian Patrol Frigates.

Series I was transferred from the Director General Public Affairs to the Directorate of History and Heritage in 1997. Series II was received from the DHH Library in 2007. Series III was received from Lt(N) Jason Delaney in 2013.
