Biographical history
The son of Isaac and Jane (nee) Skelton, Daniel Giles was born in East Zorra Township on January 4, 1858. He married Emily Chamberlain on February 22, 1893 and on December 4th that same year, they welcomed their daughter Leola Bertha Giles. Sadly, Emily would pass away a few years later on December 2, 1896 and is buried in the Christ Church Anglican Cemetery in Huntingford, Ontario.
Daniel Giles began farming at the age of seventeen and continued for forty-one years. He operated a 100 acre farm on the 14th Line of East Zorra Township, known as the R.G. Sawtell farm. He sold the farm in 1916, and moved with his family to Woodstock, Ontario, where he resided on Huron Street, until his later years when he went to live with his daughter on Riddell Street. He passed away on January 9, 1943, in his 86th year, and is buried in the Woodstock Anglican Cemetery.
