Biographical history
Daniel G. Harris was in the British Government service between 1940 and 1946. After returning to Canada he served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve, and was instrumental in the founding of maritime museums in Vancouver and Kingston. He has lectured widely on Canadian maritime archaeology in Denmark, Finland and Sweden, and on Scandinavian nautical subjects throughout Canada.

Fonds consists of 3 copies of a work by Daniel G. Harris and Philip Chaplin entitled "Attaché in Stockholm: Memoirs of the Second World War." These memoirs were written at the beginning of the 1980's with the purpose of recording the experiences of a British naval attaché in Sweden during the Second World War. This fonds sheds light on the duties of an attaché at this time, as well as diplomacy, espionage and propaganda in a neutral capital in the Second World War. Also includes 2 files re an interview between Daniel G. Harris and Philip Chaplin in 1982, and copies of various chapters on naval subjects, as well as a letter written to Harris from Patrick Beesly and Beesly's foreword to Harris and Chaplin's work.
