Letters detail discussions of interpersonal matters between family members from across Ontario, while others contain communications regarding various business interests for their farm. A set of letters within the series detail the transfer of Bayside land from the Smith family to the Ontario provincial government for the purposes of the construction of the Ontario Hospital, Whitby, and depicts Lydia Smith, advocating for additional compensation for the land after the passing of her father and cessation of operations at the farm.
