Administrative history
The City Planning Commission and its successor body, the Guelph Planning Board, were established to oversee the urban development of Guelph. Its mandate was to provide guidance to Council and to the Planning Department with regard to long and short term planning objectives for the City of Guelph. The City Planner, acting under the direction of the Commission and Board, directed city staff in the implementation of these policies. The precise dates of creation and dissolution of these bodies is not known.
Custodial history
The custodial history of these records, prior to their transfer to the Guelph Public archives, is not known or documented. These records were part of the Guelph Public Library's Canadiana collection, prior to their tranfer to the archives in late 2002.
Scope and content
Series consists of two reports,dated 1945 and 1967. The City Planning Commission report addresses the long term fifteen year planning forecast of the City of Guelph. The 1967 City Planner's report, written at the request of the Guelph Planning Board, is a brief to the Waterloo County Local Government Review, regarding the proposal for regional government in the Waterloo-Wellington Counties area. These reports document the planning issues facing city planning staff at the local level.
