Custodial history
Scope and content
Fonds consist of National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ) action directives (1994 - ) and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) situation reports (sitreps) (1995 - ). The directives emanate from the CDS, began in 1973, and are issued irregularly as the need arises. The situation reports are used to provide information on the major objectives of the Dept. of National Defence and are released on an interim basis. They cover a wide variety of topics relating directly to Canadian Forces personnel as well as planning and policy. Also includes two visitor registers signed by various military commanders from different countries (or from international organizations) on the occasion of their visit to Canada between 1990-2001. In addition, there is a Canadian Forces Manual of Individual Training, Volume 1, General, Part Two, Description. Various training topics are covered for individuals enlisted in Canadian Forces such as computer-assisted learning, management techniques and statistical reporting procedures. Assessment guidelines and factors affecting the learning environment of the trainee are also discussed. Also includes a file regarding the review of Canada-United States nuclear related agreements during 1985-1986. There are also summary records of discussion for the Armed Forces Council (1976-1980) and the Commanders’ Conferences (1970-1975), as well as a CDS directive regarding the 1972/73 Force structure and planned changes [filed under 72/238]. Also includes a file of miscellaneous documents entitled “CDS Operational Directive to Commanders 1976/77”.
