It was responsible for acting as the senior air advisor for all air force matters including training standards, policy and doctrine for the employment of the air force. CADO was more specifically responsible for: - providing operational information, advice and guidance for the air portion of the departmental force structuring and development, operational planning, training and resource management processes; - preparing the air force portion of the Annual Training Plan excluding the air elements assigned to the maritime and land forces; - advising on policy for training and employment of the Air Reserve; - providing environmental representation in accordance with established departmental policy to meet national and international liaison and representational requirements; - controlling the activities performed by the Branch to ensure an effective contribution to achieving the departmental objectives. Reporting to the Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff Operations, the CADO was assisted in these responsibilities by the Director Air Requirements, the Director Air Plans, the Director Nuclear Weapons, the Director Meteorology and Oceanography and the Director Air Operations and Training. On 2 July 1992 CADO ceased to exist and all of its responsibilities were transferred to Air Command.
