Biographical history
Charles Caleb Carryer was born in England around 1829. He immigrated to Canada and settled in Woodstock Ontario, in 1854, where he married Mary Ann Love on December 26, 1865. They would go on to have three daughters; Fanny, Agnes and Laura. He operated a saddler business on Dundas Street East, Woodstock which by the 1870s had expanded to manufacture both saddles and harnesses. He passed away on September 15, 1892, at the age of 63, following a long illness, and is buried in the Woodstock Baptist Cemetery.
Custodial history
The ledger was compiled by Charles C. Carryer of Woodstock, Ontario between the years of 1860 and 1869. The ledger was donated to the Woodstock Museum and then later transferred to the Oxford Historical Society. In 2022, the Oxford County Archives received the ledger, upon the closing of the Society’s resource centre.

The fonds consists of ledger no. 3 compiled by Charles C. Carryer, Saddler etc. of Woodstock, Ontario between the years 1860 and 1869.

Physical condition
The ledger is in poor condition with the spine broken and a number of pages loose. The ledge should be handled with care.
Immediate source of acquisition
Upon the closure of the Oxford Historical Society’s Resource Centre at the end of 2021, the ledger was transferred to the Oxford County Archives.
