        History

The St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts was a 1967 centennial project undertaken by the city of Toronto to house an arts and community centre. The Centre opened in 1970. Management of the building and the artistic activities officially separated in 1974. The producing organization of the Centre became Toronto Arts Productions, later renamed CenterStage Company in 1983. CentreStage merged with Toronto Free Theatre in 1988 to form the Canadian Stage Company.
