    Biographical history

    Charles Horne was a fellow of the Zoological Society of London who served in the Bengal civil service for 16 years in the 1800s. He returned to England in the early 1860s following the Indian Rebellion of 1857, and resided at Clapham Common, London. Most of his field notes and journals were lost in the Rebellion.

    Custodial history

    This journal was given by Horne to Scottish zoologist and entomologist Adam White who worked in the Zoology Department of the British Museum until 1863.

    Scope and content

    Item is one volume descriptions and drawings of the flora, fauna, and people of Cuttack, India, labeled 'Miscellaneous Kutukensie or Cuttack odds and ends.' Most of the drawings are coloured, and most are labeled 'Landour.'
