Biographical history
Dr. J. Burke Ewing was born in 1908, in Westport, Ontario. He studied medicine at Queen's University. During his medical career he was a clinical tutor and senior house officer in surgery at the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Western Hospital. He had also been professor and chairman of the University's Department of Surgery from 1948 until 1974, at the same time holding the surgen-in, chief position at the Hospital.

Curriculum Vitae, publications and newspaper clippings relative to the teaching career of Dr. Burke Ewing at the Department of Surgery of the University. The fonds also include 21 b/w photographs (1950-1973) of Ewing's career.
