    Biographical history

    Edward W. Bowslaugh (1843-1923) was a contractor and owner of the Grimsby Planing Mills in Grimsby, Ont. He was the son of Jacob Bowslaugh and Anna (Young) Beamer. Edward Bowslaugh married Mary Southward, and the couple had four children, two sons (Freeman and John Bowslaugh) and two daughters (Mrs. M.S. Phelps, Grimsby and Mrs. W.R. Budge, Winona). Edward Bowslaugh later sold the Grimsby Planing Mills to Daniel Marsh.

    The Bowslaugh family was a Methodist family in Ontario. Peter Bowslaugh (1756-1848) was a lay preacher on the Ancaster Circuit.

    Material was acquired prior to 1992 by archivist John Burtniak. No custodial history is known.

    Scope and content

    Fonds consists of records kept by the Bowslaugh family, mainly daily journals and an account book. Various invoices, newspaper clippings, correspondence and other papers found in the journals and account book are also included.
