The Belmont Telephone Co-Operative Association Limited was established at an organization meeting of subscribers held in the Masonic Hall at Belmont, Ontario, on May 31, 1905. The Association operated continuously until its assets were sold to the Bell Telephone Company of Canada in accordance with a purchase agreement dated June 29, 1962. The final general meeting of Association subscribers was held in Belmont on December 6, 1963, at which time the Association was formally dissolved.

Fonds consists of records created, collected and maintained by the Belmont Telephone Co-Operative Association Limited in the course of operating a rural co-operative telephone service based in Belmont, Ontario. Fonds includes minutes of annual general meetings of Association shareholders and meetings of the Association's Board of Trustees/Board of Directors; by-laws; shareholders registers; accounts ledgers and financial statements; and correspondence. •Fonds will be of value to researchers interested in the formation, development, and administration of rural telephone service co-operatives in Ontario during the first half of the twentieth century.
