    Biographical history

    Barry MacGregor is a veteran of Canadian theatre with over 53 years of experience as an actor, director, teacher and administrator. He began working in 1949 in repertory theatre, television, radio and film in the UK. He has been a long-time member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and a member of the Stratford and Shaw Festivals. His appearances have included the Inquisitor in Saint Joan, Higgins and Alfred Doolittle in Pygmalion and Mandoza in Man and Superman. Off stage, his performances include Oscar Wilde for CBC Radio program, Ideas and Stephen Leacock in CBC TV’s production of Life and Times. He has recently taught and directed at Wayne State, Ohio Weslyan and Moorehead Universities.

    The fonds includes clippings, programs, designs, photographs, and other materials relating to the career of actor and director Barry MacGregor, primarily at the Shaw and Stratford Festivals and the Bastion Theatre (Victoria, B.C.), 1949 to the present. Also included are some materials reflecting the theatrical career of Barry's father, Hector MacGregor (1909-51), in England, the United States, and Africa, 1933-51.
