Biographical history
Alfred Malcomson was a machine operator and designer for de Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited, Toronto, during the Second World War and Mandsfield & Denim, a factory in Welland, until his retirement in 1979.
Primarily concerned with designing and operating machines his aspiration was always to design aeroplanes. This proved difficult during the years of the Depression. After 1952 Malcomson worked in Mandsfield & Denim, a factory in Welland, creating the moulds to automobile parts to furbish General Motors vehicles. He remained there as supervisor until his retirement in 1979.
Malcomson was always an enthusiastic amateur photographer of aeroplanes. He attended air shows in Welland creating photographs depicting aeroplanes of a variety of types and use as well as showing activities in hangers and work areas in aeroplane factories.

Fonds consists of photographs of aeroplanes and family home movies created by Alfred Malcomson, who worked at the factory of the de Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited, Toronto, an aircraft manufacturer during the Second World War; he also worked as machine operator and designer creating the moulds for automobile parts for General Motors vehicles following the war.
