Fonds consists of a British Admiralty publication that is part of the Confidential Reference Books (CB) series and is entitled “The Technical History and Index: A Serial History of Technical Problems Dealt with By Admiralty Departments Volume 3 Part 37 Inception and Development of the Northern Base.” The document was created in response to a request for an account of technical developments relating to the establishment and reduction of the Northern Base. The Northern Base was located at Scapa Flow in the Orkney Islands, Scotland, United Kingdom. The base was used as Great Britain’s primary Northern Naval Base during the First and Second World Wars. This includes reports regarding communication throughout the islands; fuel and water supply; dockyard work; fleet repair work; and provisions required for the base and its ships.
