Mary Wright [ca. 1920-ca. 2001] was a photographer from Burlington, Ontario, who also served as co-archivist to the Professional Photographers of Ontario from 1987 to the late 1990s.

Mary Wright was a long-term member of several professional photographer associations with her husband, Frank Wright (1908-1976), who was past-president of the Professional Photographers of Ontario (1965-1967). As a co-archivist of the Professional Photographers of Ontario, she complied and created records documenting the history of the profession.

Yamada, George, 1918-2005

George Kiyoshi Yamada (1918-2005) was a pacifist, a conscientious objector during World War II, a publisher and a printer. He was the owner of Ploughshares Press in Ontario, and also published and edited the newsletter Rikka from Toronto for almost two decades.

Born in 1918 in Nebraska, George Yamada was educated at the San Francisco State College and later at Mexico City College. Drafted by the United States Army in 1941, Yamada declined to register and declared himself a conscientious objector. He spent time in a Civilian Public Service Camp and after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour, was ordered transferred to an internment centre for Nikkei (persons of Japanese descent) administered by the War Relocation Authority. He remained in church sponsored camps for the next three years and subsequent active protests led to him serving prison time.

In the early 1950s, George spent two years living on Hopi land in Arizona, and also spent eighteen years living in Mexico before moving to Canada in 1970. A printer by trade, Yamada was the owner of Ploughshares Press in addition to publishing and editing the newsletter Rikka from Toronto for almost two decades.

George married Kathleen [Kate] Cunningham on the 15 April 1982 in Toronto, after which they lived on Manitoulin Island. In the 1990s, George and Kate moved to London, Ontario. George had a stroke in 1993 and died at the Parkwood Hospital in London on the 5 July 2005.

Yonge Township, located along the St. Lawrence river, was formerly a township in Leeds County, Ontario.

Yonge Township was formerly located along the St. Lawrence river in the middle of Leeds County. The township was split in 1794, with a portion to the west named the Gore of Yonge being removed, later to become the Township of Escott in 1844. What remained of Yonge Township was also divided, the portion to the south, along the river, becoming Front of Yonge Township and that to the north becoming Rear of Yonge Township.

Ziegler (family)

The Ziegler family lived in Wellesley Township and elsewhere in Waterloo County, Ontario during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Jacob Ziegler (1824-1904) and Elizabeth Steiss (ca. 1827-1896) were German immigrants to Ontario, Ziegler arriving in 1844 and Steiss coming from the Grand Duchy of Baden. They were married, likely in Ontario, and by 1881 they lived on a farm in Wellesley Township, Waterloo County with a large family, which included children Henry, Barbara, Lydia, and Louisa. The Zieglers were Lutheran.

Henry A. Ziegler was born on 13 October 1866. He married a woman named Anna, and they had two sons, Gordon H. and Harvey William. By 1901, they lived in Waterloo.

Barbara Ziegler was born about 1858 and married Henry Scheifele [also spelled Schaufele] in 1880. She may have died in 1892.

Lydia Ziegler was born on 21 September 1867. She may have married a man named Huehnergard.

Louisa Ziegler was born on 24 February 1871 and married William H. Schaefer. They had several children, including Lizzie Ann, Delphina, and Edna.
