Stanford Howe of 194 Lansdowne Street in Sudbury, Ontario joined the Royal Canadian Navy (RNC) in January 1942 when he was 17 years old, the youngest a man could be to join the Navy. Howe was based in Toronto, Ontario, but was expecting to transfer to the naval base in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
