Private Albert Shigwadja, a former fisherman from Killarney, Ontario, was responsible for enlisting Anishinabek men during a recruiting trip to Manitoulin Island. See the Sudbury Star, February 21, 1942, p. 6.

Jack Anderson, (aka John Anderson) was from the Gatchell area at 807 Copper Cliff Road in Sudbury, Ontario. He worked as a blue printer in Copper Cliff before starting his training at the military camp in North Bay, Ontario.
