General note
In 1941, the Manhattan Grill was under the management of James Ing and Harry Chong. They specialized in Chinese dinners and Sunday meals, served day and night. They promoted themselves as "the gayest spot in town" with air conditioning and up-to-date equipment. By 1942, management also included Chong Yip.
General note
On August 15, 1940, Sudbury, Ontario became the first Canadian city to install parking meters (287 meters in total). The purpose of the meter was to encourage people who worked in downtown to commute to work using public transit. Motorists were charged a rate of 1¢ for 12 minutes of parking and 5¢ for 1 hour of parking. To learn more about Sudbury's first parking meters, see "Ushers in City Parking Meters," Sudbury Star, August 14, 1940, p. 8, "Meters Appear to Accelerate City Traffic," Sudbury Star, August 16, 1940, p 2 & "Motor Bikes to Control Traffic," Sudbury Star, August 16, 1940, p. 3.
